Privacy Policy
Overview
Expensly is a personal finance app. When you sign in, your expenses, budgets, and profile sync to your account via Supabase. A local copy is also kept on your device for fast access and offline use. Demo mode uses sample data on your device only and does not create an account or sync anywhere.
Account & cloud sync
When you create an account, we store your email address and sync your app data (expenses, budgets, profile, settings, and preferences) to our database provider (Supabase) so you can back up and restore data. We do not sell this information.
Data we store on your device
The app stores expenses, budgets, income and lifestyle preferences, app settings, and optional receipt photos on your device using local storage. If you enable Face ID or passcode lock, access is protected by your device security.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data. We do not use your expense data for advertising or cross-app tracking. We do not read your bank SMS messages, Wallet, or email inbox directly. Bank SMS and Apple Pay Capture are configured by you as Apple Shortcuts automations on your device, and order-email logging only ever sees mail you personally forward to your Expensly address.
Account deletion
You can permanently delete your account in Settings → Delete account. This removes your sign-in credentials, cloud backup, and local app data on this device. This cannot be undone. Apple subscriptions must be cancelled separately in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Subscriptions
Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple through your Apple ID. We receive subscription status from Apple to unlock Premium features. We do not receive your full payment card details for the subscription itself.
Optional bank connection (coming soon)
In the UAE and Saudi Arabia, a future Premium feature will let you connect a bank account using a regulated open-banking partner (Lean Technologies). It will be read-only: we will be able to import account balances and transactions to save you manual entry, but never move money, make payments, or change anything in your bank account, and you will be able to disconnect at any time. Bank connection is not active in the current release.
Apple Pay Capture (optional)
This Premium feature uses an Apple Shortcuts automation you create yourself. It only tells Expensly that a specific Wallet card was tapped, so we can prompt you to finish logging that purchase. We never receive your card number, bank name, or transaction amount from Apple Pay or Wallet directly.
Auto-log order emails (optional)
This Premium feature gives you a personal, unique Expensly email address. We only ever see emails you choose to forward to that address, never your real inbox or any other mail. Forwarded receipts are parsed to prefill an expense (amount, merchant, category) for your review.
Bank statement import (optional)
This Premium feature lets you upload a bank statement PDF you choose from your device. It is parsed to extract transactions so you can review and import them in bulk; the file itself is not kept after processing.
Zakat calculator data
If you use the Zakat calculator, your asset and liability inputs are stored in your account like other app data. We do not share this with third parties except as needed for cloud backup (Supabase). Metal prices for nisab are fetched via our server; we do not use AI to compute Zakat amounts.
Expense location (optional)
If you enable “Remember expense location” in Settings, the app may use your device location while you add an expense to suggest the shop, mall, or area. Location is stored with that expense in your account (latitude, longitude, and place names). You can turn this off anytime in Settings. We do not track your location in the background.
Photos
If you attach a receipt photo to an expense, the image stays on your device unless you export or share it yourself.
Notifications
If you enable spending alerts, notifications are generated on your device based on your budgets and spending activity.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
